Residencies

An understanding of place is fundamental to the understanding of processes, so the project is rooted across key apple farming locations where three artists undertook residencies this September. The residencies informed them on the agricultural history of England and provided them with personal stories and experiences. Lucy Steggals spent a week at Brogdale Collections looking at over 2500 apple varieties available at the orchard and discovering their unique characteristics. Jamie Harper went to Trumpington Community Orchard, where he uncovered infrastructures that are set up within communities and orchards. Gen Doy researched at Lathcoats Farm, a third-generation farm, learning about its survival through years of changes and challenges. Together, they looked at different farming and distributing systems, each finding a distinctive perspective on food production in England, while looking at the same fruit.
